Division of a Hekat
In this section a multiplication of an unknown fraction added with a known fraction total one
Example:
Problem 35: I have gone three times into the hekat-measure, my 1/3 has been added to me, and I return having filled the hekat-measure. What is it that says this?
Do it thus: Assume 1. Multiplying by 3 1/3 we have
\1 becomes 1
\2 becomes 2
\1/3 becomes 1/3
Total: 3 1/3Get 1 by operating on 3 1/3
1 becomes 3 1/3
1/10 becomes 1/3
1/5 becomes 2/3
Total: 1
The answer is 1/5 1/10.
