Michelle, Ashley, James and Blaine, what are you doing?
Mrs.Ebert, We are building a greenhouse that will be heated by a lamp. We are programming an RCX lego brick to read, when the temp. sensor reads 90 degrees, motor A will run and a door will open, also the temp. sensor will activate another motor to blow out the hot air using a hand made fan. Then when the temp. sensor reaches 80 degrees the fan will stop and the door will close. While we are doing this project we are keeping a log on our progress and goals for that specific day. We started on March 18th 2008.
3/18/08-We began to build the structure of the greenhouse. We accomplished building the base.
3/19/08-Our goal was to finish building the greenhouse. We accomplished this.
3/25/08-Our goal was to build the fan to blow the hot air out. We did get it built in one class period.
3/26/08-Our goal was to have the door be able to open and shut using a motor. We accomplished nothing due to lack of programmer.
3/31/08-Our goal was to get the door to open and close because we had gotten the programmer and to begin programming on the computer. Due to lack of time with a computer, we couldn't program.
4/2/08-Our goal was to program the whole process. The only thing we accomplished was opening and closing the door.
4/3/08-Our goal was to continue programming. We didn't get anything accomplished due to lack of computer usage.
4/4/08-Same as 4/3/08
4/7/08-Our goal was to finish programming. We had the process of programming completed but still need to perfect the programming because when we ran the program the fan turned on at a lower temperature. We need to change temp. sensor to read higher than 80 degrees before it runs.
4/8/08-Our goal is to perfect the programming and type out a summary of everything we have accomplished(this)
Programmers- 4/8/08-Great job writing this information down for me. I can now see that your biggest issue is computer time to program.
I will put the computer on a cart and you will be able to push it into the workroom. I also will check your program to see if that issue you are having is the temp sensor.
Also, I would like you to be more specific with how you are building and why you are making these modifications. I can only tell that something didn't work and I need to know why. OK?

4/10/08-Our goal is to heat the greenhouse and get the programmer to work. Yes. I think we are getting close to be finished hopefully. We got the greenhouse to heat up and everything worked correctly until the door opened half way because there was a little tape on the door keeping it from opening. The fan was not quite strong enough to push out the hot air when we did get the door to open up completely. So we took it apart and are going to build a different fan to work more effectively.
Programmers - You had a great goal today, you found that the first part of your program works!!! I saw the anticipation in your faces as you watched the RCX read the temperature. Once it reached 90 degrees you were very excited to see the fan turn on and the door open! Little problems have to be solved tomorrow. You are working very well together on this, everyone is stepping up and helping.
4/11/08- Our doal is to build a stronger fan and build a bigger door. We got an idea of what we are going to do to make a bigger door and to make a stronger fan. We will have to finish perfecting it on Monday or next week sometime.
Programmers - I was able to look at your project after your class and found a NEW door and a New fan. It looks as though you had to dismantle a few pieces, but I see what you are trying to accomplish and I actually can tell you, you are now on the right track. Questions for you: modifying the door, making a bigger opening allows for what purpose? Why modify the fan? Can you explain these actions?
4/14/08-Our goal is to finish the door. To answer your questions we are modifying the door because the door is not big enough for the hot air to escape fast enough to cool the greenhouse. We are modifying the fan because it wasn't powerful enough to push the hot air out of the small door. Making a bigger door will allow more air to escape in a faster period of time. Today we got the motors back up and to the door practically made.
Hey guys, what did you do today? Did you work on your greenhouse? You are so close to completing this project. I hope you get done before I get back. Blaine, how the fan working?
We didnt get to work on the project on thursday because there was an assembly and friday Blaine was the only one that didnt go to the Madison trip. Yes we are close to completing. Sorry we didnt get it done before you got back. The fan is working great.
4/21/08-Our goal is to get the fan close to being done. Blaine's idea was to put a large gear on the motor and a small gear on the fan to make it spin faster.
4/22/08-Our goal is to run the greenhouse.
Hey guys, What happened today?I know what your goal is, but what happened? Why didn't it work today?
4/23/08-Our goal is to re build the fan for the greenhouse. The greenhouse didnt work because it didnt cool down. We thought the fan was backwards but it didnt help. Were trying hard to get the greenhouse to work and to get it down as soon as we can.
I see your problem, can the fan go the other direction? Can you move the fan so it is closer to door? Just a little help to get this completed. You are running out of time. Friday, that's it.
4/28/08-Our goal is to get the fann closer to the opening/door so its easier to blow the hot air out.
4/29/08-Our goal is to perfect the greenhouse
I know you had trouble today, fan flying off, batteries dieing, but you still have to tell me that these events occurred, that is problem solving and you did a lot of that today. Please take the time to fill me on on what you accomplished.
5/7/09-Our goal is to program the motor b to run backwards so it will be able to shut the door. Yea we had complications while trying to run it though. We are all going to be sad when we are finished
